The Origin of the Name Grow With Me

I can see why so many business’s end up being someone’s name. Coming up with a business name is hard, especially when you are numerically driven but marketing challenged like myself. Fortunately for me I knew years before I started my firm that if I ever did, I knew at least the message I wanted to communicate. That message is a focus and caring for the client.

There were plenty of cool sounding financially sophisticated names, that were brain stormed but each one felt cold and sent a message of what it does but not what it does for the people. Initially when Grow With Me was added to the list, I thought it was a bit silly for a serious business like money management. The message was true and transparent though and the longer I marinated on it the more it became clear.

The word Grow represents money since the very heart of finance is taking a dollar and trying to make it a dollar plus some change. It’s a very simple idea but this simple idea is what captivated me in finance from a young age, it still does. From the day we are born to the day we die and even thereafter in our legacy, our dollars can continue working growing due to the creation of financial markets.

This central concept does not change whether you are saving or a retiree spending down your assets. Depending how much someone is spending they may not be growing their net worth as a retiree but the remaining unspent money should still keep growing accumulating interest, dividends, and capital gains until it comes time to be spent.

The grow also represents life’s stages. In life we are continuously growing, in the early toddler years it may be mostly physically which is visible. However, there are always goals we set that we are continuously growing towards. That may be saving for a car, or retiring initially, but later it may be saving for a 4th house, giving to a charity, or leaving an estate for the next generation of your family. No matter how far we are in time, growing to the next iteration or stage is a continuous process. The With Me part is centralized around the client. Free markets say people are better off letting natural economic forces decide what businesses stay around. While I do believe in free markets, sometimes it takes time for the forces to work and businesses may be more focused on their bottom line, then your care.

When you decide to hire a financial advisor, you are seeking a financial guardian, not a guardian of the firm. The word With Me is to indicate your financial advisor is focused on you and will be there through each goal. There are endless possibilities naming a finance firm. I still continue to come across words or terms I think to myself that’s a cool name but I don’t think any of them come close to resonating with the firm message like Grow With Me does. I’m glad with the choice, hopefully you are to.
